Has anyone done John Tom Hill in Glastonbury yet?

From: (mindizney@aol.com) | Date: 2003-01-12 18:36:33 UTC-05:00
I was wondering if anyone has done John Tom Hill LB in Glastonbury yet?  I tried to find parking for the trailhead, but was unable to.  Also, there were boulders along a trailhead, but the trailhead said that it was private property.  Did I not go far enough down Birch Mountain Road?  I've been on these trails before, but hiked in from Gay City, and it was quite a while ago, so I really don't remember where Gay City's trails come out on Birch Mountain Road.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello Music Woman,

Did John Tom Hill a couple of weeks ago.  Nice View from near the box.

When we did the box we parked on the right, heading towards Route 94, just past the new dirt drive to a new cell tower.  It wasn't very 'sheltered' parking and we had to dig some snow out when we left.

There is a trailhead there but no sign.  After you climb up through the gap in the foliage you'll find blazes, etc.  It's harder to find in winter - there really are stone steps but they're covered with snow.

Happy Hunting.

John

Hi there, Music Woman!

I was there about a month ago or so. It's a pretty
neat place. The box was in good shape too...
Happy trails!

When we did this, we parked roadside near the no parking sign. We took
it to mean you couldn't park in the field. We did miss it the first
time by, as it was not as far as we thought it'd be. The Gay City
trail seems to pass in a narrow corridor between two lots of private
land. Look in the blue book: The CT Walk Book for the map. It will
help a lot.

For the record, we did this with snow on the ground and it wasn't too
hard.
